Encourage family members to continue spiritual practices
Engage in a study independently or together.
Many group or individual study resources are available online. Find one that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for your family.
Family members can gather on a regular basis to discuss study materials, scripture, or a story from a children’s bible.
Small groups can meet via video conference.
Allow children to lead gatherings periodically. Encourage creativity in how they present stories or scripture. Be openminded and trust that God works through them!
Create a reverent atmosphere.
Participate in chosen activity (study, online service, child-led engagement) during your typical service day/time.
Get dressed as you usually would in preparation for the service.
Bring whatever scripture resource and notebook or journal you normally would.
If your service begins with musical worship, sing along with the virtual worship leaders or play a few of your family’s favorite songs before engaging in the service.
Dim lights, light candles, and have pertinent emblems around to create an atmosphere similar to what you usually experience at your place of worship.
Have children’s materials available that are familiar for your kids. Try to access their classroom stories or materials. Many church staff are willing to share resources, so reach out to them for guidance!
Pray together as a family - for each other, our neighbors, leaders, and the world.
Continue to be the spiritual leader in the home.
Demonstrate faith for your family by openly praying boldly and trusting.
Encourage children to pray throughout the day, especially in response to worry or fear.
